Schools & Community Groups
Students work together in small groups, navigating the Hanmer Springs Heritage Forest. Each student receives a map, and within their team, they will work together to as many visit markers as possible within the allotted time, collecting codes to receive points. The markers furthest away are worth more points. The students need to strategize to come up with the best way to collect the most points without being late back to base. The team with the highest score wins! In this activity students learn map reading skills, to work as a team, time management, focus, effective communication skills, endurance and most of to have fun.
Choose a half day tramp, like the Waterfall Walk and enjoy the beauty and tranquility of Hanmer’s very own waterfall, or choose a full day tramp like Mt Isobel, which is a perfect entry level tramp with a good mix of hard work and rewarding views. Students will experience the beautiful surroundings of our center and discover the local environment, fauna and flora, all whilst being lead by our instructors.
Mission Impossible is where students complete challenges in teams. These challenges are impossible to complete without teamwork. The mini challenges hone in on leadership, what makes a good leader, communication, problem solving, participation and team building skills. We aim to leave students with a good understanding of team work and how teamwork can be used to accomplish things that are otherwise impossible on our own.
This activity involves climbing trees at our base at the Hanmer Springs Forest Camp. We have a gum tree called ‘Gummy’ and a pine tree called ‘Smelly’ each with two routes, some being more difficult than others. This challenges students allowing them to overcome their fears and make it to the top of the climbs, all with in a safe environment. This activity is amazing to watch as students often climb higher than they expected and the encouragement from classmates is awesome to see.
Our Archery sessions offer the chance for every pupil to experience success. We encourage safety awareness from the outset and teach the basic skills at our onsite archery range.

Crate stacking is great fun for the whole team, and helps people to push past their fear of heights as they gradually build the tower higher and higher. How far can you get before you start to wobble? Will anybody beat our crate stacking record?
